The Omega is hiring and we’re looking to hear your voice on our pages! After an unforeseen 18 months, it’s safe to say that news is an important part of our society. Kickstart your career in journalism or sample the career in a learning-encouraged environment. 

Training is provided by editorial staff with plenty of room for collaboration with your peers. The Omega gives you a chance to sharpen your written and verbal communication skills in a hands-on environment.

To qualify for all positions, you must be a student in good standing, enrolled at Thompson Rivers University. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is not required but is an asset. 

Writer Responsibilities

  • Pitching articles and visual media content during weekly meetings
  • Prepare and execute coverage of major newsworthy events, meetings and other aspects of student life
  • Work in collaboration with fellow writers to layout weekly print issues

News Editor

The Omega aims to keep our community informed on news happening to them. As our news editor, your opportunities for stories are abundant as the world shifts through global changes. Look big or small, you’re able to dive deeper into stories that the TRU community wants to hear. Journalism experience isn’t necessary, but an interest in current TRU affairs and strong writing skills are seen as a bonus. Additional responsibilities include helping the editor assign weekly stories within the news section and providing additional collaboration with staff writers.

To be eligible for any of the above positions, you must be a student at Thompson Rivers University while you work. Students who will be employed by the TRU Students’ Union during their employment period may not be eligible to work for the newspaper in order to avoid any conflict of interest.
