Kamloops band Van Damsel is calling for help as it tries to make its way into the illustrious Peak Performance Project’s Top 3. The project, now in its final year in B.C., awards the top three bands with $100,000, $75,000 and $50,000 for first, second and third. Van Damsel came close once before, in 2013, when the band made its last attempt at the Top 3 but didn’t make the cut.
Van Damsel guitarist Richard Bregoliss took to Facebook to make his plea for votes.
“You may have heard that Van Damsel is in a contest to win a hundred grand, but what you may not know is that Van Damsel is my sole career path right now. In August I quit my golden-handcuffed, government job to write music and tour the world performing it – come what may. I didn’t do it for this competition (100k split four ways isn’t exactly living lavishly), but because I truly believe in the band and the album we just created,” he wrote.
Among the other finalists are Bed of Stars, Chersea, Find the Others, Jesse Roper, Joy District, JP Maurice, Little India, Mike Edel, Mindil Beach, Smash Boom Pow and Windmills.
We’ve written about the Kamloops band a number of times before, including the first time they made their run in the Peak Performance Project, a review of their EP released around the same time, and a review of their most recent album.
