Highway 1 crash victim identified as TRU student

The B.C. Coroners Service identified Sascha Hedrich, 19, a second year bachelor of science student at TRU, as the man who died in a July 31 crash on Highway 1 near Hoffman’s Bluff, 12 kilometres south of Chase, B.C.

Hedrich’s car collided with an eastbound tour bus around 4 p.m. on July 31. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Thursday, Aug. 6, TRU president Alan Shaver addressed Hedrich’s death in a letter to the university community.

“Sascha made himself known as an intellectually curious student who was full of questions and full of promise. He was intensely interested in learning and in applying his learning to the world beyond the university, often staying after class to ask questions of his instructors,” Shaver wrote. “On behalf of the TRU Community I extend sincere condolences to Sascha’s family and friends.”

A celebration of Hedrich’s life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Pritchard Hall for friends and family. Campus flags will be flown at half-mast on that day, as well.
